How to Make a Fresh Turmeric Tea
Turmeric tea is simple to prepare. You don’t have to peel the turmeric first, but keep in mind that it will stain anything that it comes into contact with (your fingers, countertop, cutting board).
To prepare turmeric tea, follow these steps:
Fresh or dry tea and a few simple pieces of equipment are all you need to brew a delicious cup at home. It can be made in either of these three methods.
1. Fresh turmeric tea:

To create turmeric tea using fresh, whole turmeric, follow these steps:
- Make tiny slices out of a 1-inch (2.5-cm) piece of fresh turmeric.
- 1 cup of turmeric (237 mL) + 1 cup of water (237 mL)
- Bring a pot of water to a boil with the turmeric.
- Allow for 3–5 minutes of resting time.
- With a strainer, remove the turmeric pieces from the liquid.

- Combine 1 cup (237 mL) water and 1/2 tsp (1.5 grams) ground turmeric in a bowl with a whisk or equivalent instrument.
- Bring the water and turmeric to a boil.
- Set the timer for 3–5 minutes and allow the mixture to sit there.
- Make sure the turmeric is thoroughly mixed in.

To prepare tea with cold brew:
- A 4-inch (10 cm) piece of fresh turmeric cut into 1-inch (1 cm) cubes or 4 tbsp. (37.6 g) of dried turmeric, should add to a pot of water with 4 cups (946 mL).
- Refrigerate for at least 24 hours before using.
- Use cheesecloth or a wire mesh sieve to remove the tea leaves.
- With any of these foundation recipes, you can add honey to sweeten the tea to your preference or add other ingredients as you choose.
